As a result, calcium from skeletal storage is used and this could weaken the bones.[8] Vitamin D and calcium insufficiencies were also found to induce hyperparathyroidism, leading to increase bone turn over, bone loss, and fracture.[19,22,75] Treatment with vitamin D and calcium supplement showed decreased serum PTH, increased bone mineral density (BMD), and reduce fracture rates.[19,22,79,80] The improvement of bone density concurrently with muscle strengthening, and lower rates of falls, might finally result in lessening fracture incidence. Here, PTH is linked to hyperparathyroidism.
