It was surprising to find significant positive correlations between the concentration of tau fibrils and MPO in the DLB cases, AD patients with the heterozygous mutation in TSPO, and PD patients with the heterozygous mutation in BIN1. This finding suggests that misfolded and truncated tau proteins preferentially promote the accumulation of aqueous phase oxidants and free radicals (H2O2, •OH, and O2•−), probably activating microglia [42,60]. This evidence concerns the gene TSPO and Lewy body dementia.
