The expression of interleukin 8 (IL-8), chemokine CXCL16, the calcium binding proteins S100A8 and S100A9 and lipocalin 2 (LCN2) were significantly increased and the expression of antimicrobial peptide DEFB1 was significantly decreased in UC patients when compared to non-IBD. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and inflammatory bowel disease.
