The study demonstrated that high-dose cholecalciferol therapy (40,000 IU/week) for 24 weeks resulted in 25(OH)D normalization and was associated with reduction in neuropathy severity, as well as improvement in skin microcirculation and cytokines profile (decrease in proinflammatory IL-6 and increase in anti-inflammatory IL-10), in patients with T2DM and DPN. The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
