PTENp1 acts as a potential tumor suppressor due to the reduction of its copy number, independent of PTEN. It has also shown examples of ectopic expression of PTENP1 inhibited proliferation, colony formation and migration of HNSCC cells, which proves that PTENP1 may serve as a prognostic factor in patients with HNSCC [10]. The gene discussed is PTENP1; the disease is head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
