In classical APL, the PML-RARA fusion protein affected specific annexins, which are proteins capable of binding negatively charged phospholipids in membranes in a Ca2+-dependent manner [67] and are involved in major cellular processes (e.g., differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, vesiculation, membrane dynamics, cell migration, invasion, and adhesion) [34,68,69,70,71,72,73,74,75,76,77]. This evidence concerns the gene RARA and acute promyelocytic leukemia.
