Upregulation of USP6 leads to bone neoplasms, and this gene is therefore considered as an oncogene. While USP6 is a hominoid‐specific gene that was formed as result of a recent evolutionary fusion of the ancestor genes TBC1D3 to USP32, both of the ancestor genes have also been linked with oncogenic processes. This evidence concerns the gene TBC1D3 and bone neoplasm.
