Akturk et al. (2019) discovered that when adjusting for insulin delivery method, income and age, cannabis users with T1D had a 0.41% higher mean HbA1C level than non-users (8.4% [SD 2.0%] vs 7.6% [SD 1.6%], p< .01) but there was no difference in severe hypoglycemia requiring hospitalization (21 of 134 [15.6%] vs 64 of 316 [20.3%], p= .17) among cannabis users with T1D. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
