Hongli et al. found that 20% of early-onset liver cancer patients had an integration hotspot in the 8q24 region between the two oncogenes c-Myc and PVT1, and showed that viral integration events could lead expression changes of these two genes, which are involved in tumorigenesis, by comparing the characteristics of viral integration between early and late-onset liver cancer [18].
