AFP and hepatocellular carcinoma: According to the most recent EASL guidelines, the cutoff value of 20 ng/ml for AFP shows good sensitivity for HCC diagnosis while the conventional AFP cutoff value of 200 ng/ml is associated with satisfactory specificity and positive predictive value (i.e., low false positivity) of >97% but at a cost of lower sensitivity and negative predictive value (Galle et al., 2018).
