• Developed decades ago for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma, dystrophic epidermolysis, exocrine pancreatic enzyme inhibition, and chronic pancreatitis • TMPRSS2 protease activity as a synthetic serine protease inhibitor. In a clinical trial investigating the effects of camostat mesylate against dyspepsia associated with non-alcoholic mild pancreatic disease, 95 patients received 200 mg camostat mesylate three times daily for 2 weeks and showed only mild side effects and no severe adverse effects. This evidence concerns the gene TMPRSS2 and chronic pancreatitis.
