The pioneer pilot study of Thompson et al. revealed the increase of apoptosis, and the reduction of both Ki-67 (a cell proliferation marker) and c-erB2 (also known as HER-2) expression in 19 BC patients that consumed 25 g/day flaxseed vs. 13 patients that consumed placebo for approximately 37 days from the diagnosis until the resection of the tumour [125]. This evidence concerns the gene ERBB2 and breast cancer.
