In the present study, we have, thus, investigated if other extracellular signals might trigger NRP1-dependent tumor malignancy, and found that a relatively poorly studied NRP1-ligand, Galectin-1 (Gal-1) [13,14], is upregulated in melanoma cells upon the onset of resistance to BRAF-targeted drugs. The gene discussed is LGALS1; the disease is melanoma.
