In a case report where an HIV-infected patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia received an allo-HSCT with CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells edited by clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats technology to delete the CCR5 gene, full chimerism was achieved and the resultant CCR5-ablated CD4+ T cells persisted for months (NCT03164135 Xu et al., 2019). The gene discussed is CCR5; the disease is acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
