Mechanism wise, in a ligation-induced periodontitis rat model, paeonol attenuates by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis via regulating Nrf2/NF-κB/NFATc1 signaling pathway [88], while, in vivo, intraperitoneal injection of paeonol reduced the induced osteoclast formation and possessed a consistent antidestructive effect in rat experimental periodontitis models [87, 88]. The gene discussed is NFE2L2; the disease is periodontitis.
