BDNF is one of the most characterized neurotrophins, whose serum and hippocampal expression levels decrease under stress or depression (Duman and Monteggia, 2006; Bocchio-Chiavetto et al., 2010), while exercise significantly increased BDNF expression that lasted for 1–2 weeks after exercise intervention (Adlard et al., 2004; Berchtold et al., 2010; Marlatt et al., 2012). This evidence concerns the gene BDNF and depressive disorder.
