It is interesting that in patients with type 2 diabetes – with high risk of cardiovascular and renal events – treatment with GLP‐1 receptor agonists and to a lesser extent with DPP‐4 inhibitors in addition to standard treatment of diabetes has proven to have beneficial long‐term cardiovascular and renal effects – plausibly beyond the effects of glycemic control (Muskiet et al., 2017). Here, DPP4 is linked to diabetes mellitus.
