RMDN3 and Parkinson disease: α-Synuclein is the central protein in the progression of Parkinson’s disease, and mutant α-synuclein disrupts the VAPB-PTPIP51 complex, resulting in the uncoupling of ER-mitochondria contacts and leading to dysregulated Ca2+ transfer and decreased mitochondrial ATP production in the development of Parkinson’s disease (Paillusson et al., 2017).
