Glioma is an overarching term used for brain tumors of glial cells: astrocytes, glioblastoma, oligodendrocytes, oligodendroglioma, ependymal cells, ependymoma, and was improved by combining histology with molecular genotyping of key markers (e.g., iso-citrate dehydrogenase (IDH), ATP-dependent helicase (ATRX), Lys-27-Met mutations in histone 3 (H3K27M), p53 mutations, and 1p/19q chromosomal deletion (14). The gene discussed is IDH2; the disease is central nervous system cancer.
