NF2 and cancer: Out of the 12 heterozygous mutant zebrafish lines developing malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs), one of them harbored a mutation in the neurofibromatosis type 2 (nf2a) gene, an orthologue of the NF2 tumor suppressor gene, while all the others carried retroviral insertions within ribosomal protein genes, linking protein biogenesis to cancer.
