ENPP2 and malignant colon neoplasm: The functions of the previously known four inhibitory genes were all associated with aggravating inflammation, promoting degeneration, and inhibiting tissue regeneration in various contexts: enpp2 (autotaxin, a stimulator of inflammation [22, 63]), slc9a3R2 (a suppressor of STAT3, pro-healing signaling in colon cancer [156]), plp1 (proteolipid protein 1, a major component of mature oligodendrocytes, which inhibit CNS axon regeneration [65, 155]), and znf395 (zinc finger protein 395, a transcriptional activator of pro-inflammatory cytokines [49]).
