The second study [15] reported a decrease in IL-6 in the mean (SE) of 2.1(0.3) at baseline to 1.1 (0.2) at 3 months (p = 0.005) for 30 participants with type 2 diabetes and periodontitis; however, the authors did not report separate values for the intervention and control groups except to say that there were no significant differences observed between treatment groups. Here, IL6 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
