Another study [15] reported a slight increase in IL-8 from mean (SE) of 9.0 (1.1) at baseline to 10.6 (2.5) at three months (p = 0.621) for 30 participants with type 2 diabetes and periodontitis; however, the study did not give separate values for intervention and placebo groups except to say there were no significant differences observed between treatment groups. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is periodontitis.
