We hypothesize that dysregulated glycosylation may be a feature of schizophrenia pathogenesis, as in addition to SLC39A8, several glycosylation enzymes are associated with the disorder by GWAS42, and many studies have shown glycosylation changes in post-mortem brain of individuals with schizophrenia43. The gene discussed is SLC39A8; the disease is schizophrenia.
