Although classical monocytes increased immediately following infection in 4 of 5 nondepleted macaques but only 1 of 4 CD8-depleted animals, the frequency of classical monocytes continued to rise until 3 dpi only in cynomolgus macaques, whereas rhesus macaques showed increases in classical monocyte frequency past 15 dpi, after the cynomolgus macaques had been sacrificed (Fig. 3b).
