Regarding genetics and molecular pathways, miR-143-3p regulates expression of ANGPTL8 transcript and protein levels [46], the prevalence of T2DM and impaired glucose tolerance is greater in subjects with the R59W ANGPTL8 variant [47], and the concomitant presence of CETP B1, NOS3 T and ANGPTL8 T alleles augments the risk of CVD and T2DM [48].
