TSPO and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: More specifically, TSPO has been used as a sensitive biomarker of reactive gliosis and inflammation associated with a variety of brain insults including chemical-induced neurotoxicity [5–10], ischemia [11], traumatic brain injury [12, 13], and a number of neurodegenerative disorders with an inflammatory component such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis, and virus-induced neuroinflammation [14–18].
