SLC12A2 and epilepsy: Recent studies have reported alterations of NKCC1 or KCC2 cotransporters in multiple models of neurological and psychiatric diseases, including schizophrenia (Hyde et al., 2011; Merner et al., 2016), autism (Cellot and Cherubini, 2014; Merner et al., 2015), Down syndrome (Deidda et al., 2015), epilepsy (Hübner et al., 2001; Huberfeld et al., 2007), cerebral ischemia (Jaenisch et al., 2010), tuberous sclerosis complex (Ruffolo et al., 2016), traumatic brain injury (Bonislawski et al., 2007), neuropathic pain (Cramer et al., 2008) and stress (Tsukahara et al., 2015; Kwon et al., 2018).
