We tried to overcome this problem of confounding by LD for D6D by restricting the selected instruments to those from the FADS2 gene that are not in LD with variants from FADS1. This sensitivity analysis revealed stronger total effects of D6D on both T2DM and CAD, which further supports a causal role of D6D. The gene discussed is FADS2; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
