In this study, PBI-4547 was shown to reduce the expression of several pro-fibrogenic genes in both liver and WAT, including Col1a1, Ctgf and Mmp2. Interestingly, pharmacological restoration of FAO prevented cell damage and completely abolished fibrosis in a mouse model of renal fibrosis26 suggesting that augmentation of FAO by PBI-4547 could prevent fibrosis and thus NAFLD progression. This evidence concerns the gene MMP2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
