The nonsignificant improvement in hemoglobin levels and indicators of iron status (ferritin, serum iron, and transferrin) and the equally nonsignificant decrease in the prevalence of anemia, iron deficiency, and iron deficiency anemia in the control group is unlikely to be due to the cluster randomization, and such a finding has been described in other studies in India (Muthayya et al., 2012) and Côte d'Ivoire (Rohner et al., 2010). This evidence concerns the gene TF and anemia.
