In a cohort study, irrespective of allergy status (persistent, tolerant or sensitized), it was found that less than 8% of all infants were sensitized to Gal d 5; however, it was also observed that Gal d 5-specific IgE (sIgE) was strongly correlated with persistent egg allergy or the sensitization to multiple egg allergens [24].
