The CD8 T-cell response to the two MI-driving epitopes IE1 (YPHFMPTNL-Ld) and m164 (AGPPRYSRI-Dd) in the H-2d haplotype [45] was quantitated in the spleen in the acute phase of infection after 1 week, as well as during latent infection after 4 months, by cytofluorometric staining with the respective MHC-peptide multimers, combined with activation markers CD62L and KLRG1 (gating strategy and original data: Figure 1A, summary of results: Figure 1B). This evidence concerns the gene KLRG1 and disease arising from reactivation of latent virus.
