Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed that the tumor was composed of small- to large-sized neuronal or ganglionic cells containing abundant acidophilic cytoplasm and nuclei with a prominent nucleolus against a background of fine, fibrillar, neuropil-like matrix (Fig. 2A and 2B), which were diffusely immunoreactive to synaptophysin, chromogranin A, neurofilament, and NCAM (CD56), and partially immunoreactive to NeuN (Fig. 3A–3C).
