Taken together with similar findings in an amyloid-β model (Yang et al., 2011), in aged mice (Kress et al., 2014), and also in human Alzheimer’s disease (Zeppenfeld et al., 2016), this research points to AQP4 as a novel therapeutic target for Alzheimer’s disease. Here, AQP4 is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
