Unexpectedly, we found a non-random enrichment of CAD GWAS targets in the intrinsic sex difference gene set, pointing towards potential EC targets for sex differences in CAD, such as SMG6, CELSR2, PLPP3, and ATP2B1. As an example, lower ATP2B1 expression by gene silencing has recently been shown to increase nitric oxide production and eNOS activity in HUVECs29. Here, CELSR2 is linked to coronary artery disorder.
