Given the important role played by NETs in the pathogenesis of various respiratory diseases and thrombosis, many researchers also suggest NETs as key players in the pathogenesis of COVID‐19, most probably via NET‐mediated release of excessive amounts of IL‐6 and IL‐1β during cytokine storms in the COVID‐19 milieu (Barnes et al., 2020; Mozzini & Girelli, 2020; Thierry, 2020; Thierry & Roch, 2020; Tomar, Anders, Desai, & Mulay, 2020). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and COVID-19.
