Compared to surviving patients, non‐surviving COVID‐19 patients had gradually and remarkably elevated inflammatory mediators in their blood, such as C‐reactive protein, D‐dimer, cytokines, for example, IL‐6, IL‐8, and TNF‐α, and neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio, progressing to ARDS, sepsis, and multi‐organ failure (D. Zhang, Guo, et al., 2020; F. Zhou, Yu, et al., 2020). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is acute respiratory distress syndrome.
