A few therapeutic strategies are used in the treatment of PD: Levodopa (l-DOPA) and dopamine agonists activating dopamine receptors, monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B) inhibitors and catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors blocking dopamine degradation, or N-methyl-d-aspartate(NMDA) receptors and acetylcholine (ACh) receptors antagonists [1].
