There was no significant difference in the number of Ascl1+/Tomato+ cells in the subventricular zone (p = 0.486) or in the medial striatum (p = 0.2), whereas the combination of stroke and Notch-signaling blockade led to a >40-fold increase in the number of Ascl1-expressing astrocytes in the lateral half of the striatum, with many of these cells residing in the stroke penumbra (Figure 2B,C). This evidence concerns the gene ASCL1 and stroke disorder.
