The importance of TLR2 is seen in TLR2‐deficient mice, which are highly susceptible to infection by bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae,7, 8 parasites such as Toxoplasma gondii,9 fungi such as Candida albicans10 and have decreased responses to certain viral infections including respiratory syncytial virus.11 This evidence concerns the gene TLR2 and infection.
