Previous studies shows that increased IL-32 was negatively correlated with decreased FEV1, FEV1/FVC and oxygenation index in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD, confirming that IL-32 has a direct pro-inflammatory effect and also is the cause of chronic airway inflammation persisting and progressively worsening7,17,18. This evidence concerns the gene IL32 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
