ACE2 and cardiovascular disorder: Although it is not yet clear why this relationship occurs, many explanations have been proposed by researchers, such as decrease in angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) protein expression in older individuals,24 more contact and developed immune response to other viruses,25,26 and higher prevalence of comorbidities.27 Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 has been identified as the surface receptor responsible for SARS-CoV-2 entrance into cells.28,29 Deficiency of this protein is associated with a variety of conditions, such as older age, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.
