These studies, and others [17, 41, 42], of NLRP3 activity in PD are consistent with similar studies of NLRP3 in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) [43–46], suggesting that the NLRP3 inflammasome is a core proinflammatory mediator in neurodegenerative disorders. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
