The most convincing evidence of the role of genetic factors comes from the identification of the major AMD susceptibility alleles, including the gene of complement factor H (CFH), age-related maculopathy susceptibility 2 (ARMS2), pleckstrin homology domain-containing A1 (PLEKHA1), hypothetical gene LOC387715, located in 10q26, C2-CFB (complement C2-complement factor B), and C3 (complement C3) and HtrA serine peptidase 1 (HTRA1) (reviewed in [46]). The gene discussed is ARMS2; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
