Although at this point it is tempting to speculate that the IL13rs1295686A allele, which correlates with lower levels of IL1Ra secretion, might represent a biomarker with a potential benefit in AML by antagonising IL1 effects on blast proliferation and blocking inflammation, we believe that additional functional experiments are still warranted to explain the exact mechanism by which the IL13rs1295686 variant influence the risk of AML.
