Cholesterol concentration has been reported to be an important biomarker of inflammation in obese dogs [28], mainly due to excess in the production of adipokines, which affects insulin resistance, and to the adipocyte secretions of inflammatory mediators, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and others, which contribute to systemic inflammation. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and Insulin resistance.
