Greer et al. showed that the small-molecule drug ONC201 [102], originally shown to induce the transcription of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and to destroy breast cancer cells by activating TRAIL death receptors, induces phosphorylation of AMP-dependent kinase and ATP loss. This evidence concerns the gene TNFSF10 and breast carcinoma.
