CD36 and breast carcinoma: There are two ways to suppress the transfer of fatty acids from adipocytes to tumor cells: 1) an inhibitor of fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP 4), which is a fatty acid transporter (BMS309403), can suppress cancer cell proliferation [187], and 2) blocking a transmembrane protein CD36 that is involved in fatty acid uptake with CD36-blocking antibody can decrease breast cancer cell metastasis [188,189].
