Regarding that infection of Sp2/0-Ag14 cells with rotavirus isolates ECwt-O, WTEW, TRUYO, WT1-5, or WWM-induced permeability changes and early apoptotic signals in the cell membrane, besides chromatin condensation, nuclear fragmentation, and DNA fragmentation, it is plausible to suggest that rotavirus is inducing an apoptotic response in infected cells. This evidence concerns the gene WT1 and infection.
