A significant survival difference was seen for cases of high-grade mucinous adenocarcinoma with signet ring cells invading tissue with a median overall survival of 0.5 years versus 2.9 years for cases of high-grade mucinous adenocarcinoma without signet ring cells (p=0.04), and 2.4 years for high-grade mucinous adenocarcinoma with signet ring cells within mucin pools (p=0.03) [12]. This evidence concerns the gene MUC5AC and colon mucinous adenocarcinoma.
