CRP and diabetes mellitus: C reactive protein (CRP), the most extensively studied biomarker of inflammation, is known to be significantly associated with CVD including diabetes in European and Asian populations; however, data on its role in CVD in sub-Saharan African populations are limited.9 10 Considering the substantial ethnic differences in the association between inflammation and diabetes, it may be valuable to investigate this association in sub-Saharan African populations, in the quest to integrate CRP to global risk scores for diabetes.11
